My tourbook, as I think I may have already shared, lists 6 things as the absolute “must see” things of Ecuador…and among them is Cuenca, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was colonized by the Spanish in the 1550s and the architecture still shows this influence. Cuenca is a beautiful city.
It’s a city of churches and parks. And the grandest of all is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. With her blue domes and red brick towers, it decorates the skyline of the city in a way that reminds me of the great cities of Europe.
We climb to the terrace to see the cupolas and get the most incredible view of the main plaza below and the entire city in every direction.
I could wander around this city’s old buildings and barrios for hours…
