Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro

Morning dawns to our foursome boarding a bus for a day trip to Montenegro which takes us across a bit of Bosnia-Herzegovina on the way. We stop in Bosnia-Herzegovina only long enough for a view of the sea and a bathroom break.

Then off to Montenegro.

We stop at the town of Perast in the Bay of Kotor and take a short boat ride to the small chapel and island, Our Lady of the Rocks.

Legend says that a painting of Mary and Jesus washed up on a small rock  in the bay. Locals built the island and chapel in honor of what they saw as a miracle. A local festival each year sees locals bring more rock to the island to continue to shore it up.

We return to land and continue on to Kotor the town, to tour the old city. Kotor is also a walled city, but it’s walls, although incomplete now, are more impressive than most for the vertical cliffs they climb above the town.

We enjoy a lunch of fresh local fish and lamb in a sunny courtyard and then walk outside the city walls to pick up some fresh local market items for our dinner.

The bus winds up a hillside series of switchbacks to give us one more beautiful view for the day.
